Let’s get started

  • Engage with the evidence

The sprint leader shares the 1-3 chosen sources with the team. On behalf of the team, each team member reads and reviews a source, and takes note of the following:

    - The top-line, most important messages/concepts emerging (what is it saying?)

    - Specific practice shifts or strategies that could be trialled in response to the evidence (based on what we have read, how might we improve practice?)

  • Share back with the group

One at a time, each team member provides a brief summary of what they have read. You might choose to ask team members to share:

    - One or two parts of the article they feel the team needs to know about

    - One quote or part of the article that might challenge or stretch thinking

  • Implications for practice

As a group, identify the top 3 strategies or approaches that you want to trial in your next Sprint (or future Sprints).

Consider what is doable in your context and if it will meet the needs of your students.

☝️

When running this tool for the first time, you might assign one source to a pair of teachers, so that Step 1 is undertaken in pairs. This can support those who are new to the process, or who may be less familiar with the resources being explored.

After your team builds a stronger culture of engaging with research evidence, you may be able to offer the sources as pre-reading and then move straight to Step 2 to kick off your Prepare meeting.
