Let’s get started

  • Record the strategy/strategies

Record the strategy (or strategies) you have decided to trial as part of your Sprint.

  • Collectively build a shared description

Using the following prompts, describe (and record) with clarity what exactly the strategy will look like in the classroom:

    - What will we be doing when implementing this strategy? What might a peer observe us doing?

    - What would it sound like in the classroom? What things might the teacher be saying?

    - What might students be doing, or saying, when we are implementing the strategy?

    - How many times or days a week do we expect to be working on this over the course of the Sprint?

  • Refine your description

Given answers to the above prompts, revisit and refine your description of the target practice change as necessary. If comfortable to do so, you might add a short, modelled example (e.g. one person could physically act out the strategy) to further solidify the group’s understanding of the agreed practice change.

Alternatively, you could do a simple sketch to show what it might look like.

☝️

When getting precise about our teaching, it is helpful to think not just about the strategy, but also about the physical resources that teachers may need to implement it effectively. Be sure to clarify where teachers can find the supports and resources that they need to approach the work with confidence.

More about this protocol

✅ Specify very clearly what a chosen practice shift would “look like” in the classroom

✅ Provide an opportunity for the team to consider what will be required for effective implementation
